Description

The Traditional 36 is basically a more restricted 36/600 developmental class boat. The class  was formed in 1995 when it became evident that the technological developments within the 36/600 class were becoming very expensive. This class was formed in order to encourage development and to keep the cost down so as not to chase away prospective new members to the class, or the AMYA.

The principle difference between the 36/600 and the Traditional 36 is that Traditional 36 does not permit swing rigs.

The class specifications are so worded to encourage the designers and builders to fully utilize their imaginations and the sailing characteristics of the Traditional 36 are well suited for both the experienced skippers and the beginner.

The Traditional 36 class is primarily located on Long Island, New York, but requests for information have come from as far away as California. Several clubs on Long Island sail this class which makes interclub activities very competitive and exciting.
