The perpetual trophy for the Fairwind class national champion was donated to the Fairwind class at the inaugural Fairwind Nationals in 2002 at Ann Arbor, Michigan. The trophy was donated by the first class secretary, Will Gorgen. The trophy will be awarded each year to the winner of the national championship regatta.
In his dedication speech, Will Gorgen stated, "The history of a class is recorded in its perpetual trophies. The inscriptions tell the story of the sailors who came and competed for the honor of being named class champion. The history of our class started this year, and to commemorate our inaugural year, I hereby donate this trophy to the Fairwind Class. It will be awarded each year to the winner of the National Championship Regatta."
