Club Websites and Promotion divider

Here at the AMYA, we have a passion for RC sailing, and the internet!

We want to help your club succeed, attract new members, and increase the appeal of the hobby.

We can do this by offering the club a webspace at an affordable price, for free. Each webspace will be run by your administrator and is great for people with no webspace experience and for those with internet skills who want to explore their creativity. There are plenty of options and flexibility!

A website will help your club grow and encourage new people to join the world of radio controlled yachting. If you have any questions please contact the Webmaster. We are friendly people and we are always happy to help.

Starting Your Club Website

Since you won't need special software to write your HTML pages, you can use your Word Processor Application or Text Editor. Beware, whether you use AppleWorks or Word or Office, etc. do not use any tool other than Spellcheck or you will create some headaches for yourself. They are not HTML code editors.

The Web, like Sailing, has its own set of strict rules called syntax, that can be found at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3.org). The site also has an online HTML Validator so you can be sure your pages are compliant with the rules and also compliant with the different browsers, too.

The best way to do HTML code and have the necessary tools at hand is to use one of the outstanding Programs on the market. Highly recommended examples include: BBedit, Dream Weaver, GoLive. These applications are limited to your own imagination and all offer free trials.

Microsoft Word is not recommended due to the quirkiness of the programming and the unnecessary extra coding that it adds. To each, his own.

Each AMYA Club is allowed a free club website (with some limitations) as a subweb under the AMYA domain, for example the Minuteman Model Yacht Club, AMYA Club #25 is located at: http://www.ModelYacht.org/club25/ (and there are many others).

The website will be pretty basic html, designed by a volunteering club member (or one mysteriously voted in while on vacation), or someone the club gets to do the website.

The website must be smaller than 50 MB's including all graphics, files, etc.

No special scripts, password protection, flash, frames, unusual fonts, inappropriate or unrelated content, etc.. For instance, please do not use the space for Uncle Ahab's birthday party.

No domain names needed, the Club website address will be its AMYA club number
(i.e. ModelYacht.org/club2007/)

You are responsible for creating and maintaining your own pages.

The final product must be checked for errors HTML Validater and emailed to the AMYA Web Master for final approval and publishing. Contact the Web Master for HTML assistance.

Other options are available, like your own hosting company and domain name. . Free Website examples are: Orgsites.com (no pop-ups) or Angelfire, Tripod, or Yahoo, (with popups).

Promoting your Club Website

The Web Master will upload the updates to the AMYA Club Site and the AMYA Model Yachting links pages.

For those that have a club website, here is a valuable, easy, and free way to submit the club url to search engines. Selfpromotion.com

Check out the Ann Arbor MYC website; Hosted free by Orgsites.com, it's free and easy!

Maintain a page of Reciprocal Links, that is, a page of related website links. The search engines will see how popular your site is and rank it higher than one that isn't. Just don't let it be a page solely of links or the Search Engines will think it's a Link Farm and will lower your ranking.

Club Promotion (in the local area)

How do you promote your club in your area?  How do you raise awareness and let folks  know who and what you are?

Website Improvements, etc.

How about having the current weather on your Club Website? The Weather Channel makes it easy and free for you to do so. Go to Weather On Your Site for more details. Enter your zip in the example below for your forecast.
